  124. ===== Installation =====================================

  126. The installation procedure for BEAM COOKBOOK is quite simple.  The
  127. package includes a program, "INSTALL.EXE", which automates the
  128. entire process.  You will need about 1.3 Mb of available disk space
  129. on the hard drive on which you plan to install BEAM COOKBOOK.
  130.  
  131. INSTALLING FROM A CD-ROM
  132.  
  133. If this CD-ROM has a working version of BEAM COOKBOOK use the following
  134. steps otherwise use "INSTALL FROM A HARD DRIVE" instructions.
  135.    o  Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" from the directory on the CD-ROM.
  136.       Example: "K:\CD_ROM\INSTALL".
  137.  
  138. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  139.  
  140. If you downloaded BEAM COOKBOOK from a BBS (or received it in the form of
  141. archive files from some other source), you will need to perform the
  142. following steps.
  143.  
  144.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  145.       directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  146.       varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
  147.       In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
  148.       that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
  149.       perform this step.  If not, you should be able to obtain
  150.       directions for this from the same source from which you received
  151.       the package.
  152.  
  153.    o  Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  154.       example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted
  155.       the BEAM COOKBOOK package is C:\TEMP, you would execute the
  156.       MS-DOS command, "c:\temp\install".

  158.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  159.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  160.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  161.       program will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy
  162.       the BEAM COOKBOOK files to that directory.  The installation
  163.       program will copy the executable programs, documentation, and
  164.       samples (optional) in the directory of your choice.  It will make
  165.       no other changes; specifically, it will not modify your
  166.       autoexec.bat or config.sys files.

  168. When you're satisfied that the installation was successful, you should
  169. delete the temporary directory FROM which you installed BEAM COOKBOOK
  170. (C:\TEMP, in the above discussion), including all its contents.
